Is military pay enough to start a family?
For the first year in the military, base pay is only $17,000. But add in the BAS (food for yourself) and BAH (covers housing costs) and your medical, dental, etc. benefits and you are pretty well set. But considering all this - do you think this would be enough to start a family? I gues it depends on how many dependents you have. Say you marry and have one child. Do you think we would have a hard time financially? What if my wife made...let's say about $40,000...do you think combined we would have enough to support the family? What if I was the only one supporting the family? Then I imagine we would have a tough time financially... what do you think?
I'm supporting my wife and our seven-year old daughter on military enlisted pay (E6 pay) as a single income family. She's has been a SAHM ever since our daughter was born and now she's getting her master degree in education. It's feasible but you need to keep a budget. As a single income household forget about having 'mad money' to blow on useless stuff.
